In general a ductile fracture surface exhibits a cup and cone feature. In contrast, a brittle fracture exhibits a flat feature with river patters & cleaves. One can identify the transition between the brittle fracture surface, normal plane to loading axis, to the ductile fracture surface,a 45o plane to the loading axis & along the slip plane, from changes of the fracture feature surface from the flat to inclined surface by SEM.
