Need to homogenise whole voles (weight up to 40 g) for chemical analyses. This includes bones, fur, soft tissue etc. Does anyone have a suggestion for a suitable homogeniser?
Best will be freeze the whole tissue/s in Liquid nitrogen. Take sterile (autoclaved) Mortar and pestle. Place Liquid nitrogen in the mortar and place tissue in it and crush slowly with pestle. It is difficult due to cold but you can do to make it powder gently. Always leave in LN2 on tissue. That can be used for RNA and Protein or any work. We used for crushing cartilage.
Alternatively you may try steel tubes with steal beads in them, place liquid nitrogen and tissue in them and use TissueLyser Qiagen with electric pulses
