I am using GPS data to conduct seasonal habitat and survival analysis on deer.

I have an individual that has an 8 month gap in between collar fixes due to a collar malfunction. The collar successfully took fixes for about 6 months before failing, then once recaptured and re-collared, the new collar successfully took fixes for another year.

I want to combine the 2 GPS collar files into one because it is the same individual.

However I am concerned about how the 8 month gap will effect the overall fix success rates, seasonal (summer, fall, winter, spring) habitat and survival analyses.

Any suggestions on how to deal with this? Or if I am worried about nothing?
