Some old papers and books may not provide original doi in most occasions. How could I get them, cuz some journals strongly recommend doi for every single reference.
DOI numbers are a relatively new article reference system. Hence, most historic articles do NOT have DOI numbers. However, many publishers add DOI numbers to old articles and your best option is then perhaps to wait. Alternatively, you could mail publishers for the actual papers that interests you.
In my experience, although the provision of DOI is encouraged by publishers, it only refers to available DOI numbers. If there isn´t any available, you usually don´t have to provide it.
