I am trying to prepare Schiff base using O-vanillin and 1,3 DAP and 2,2 methyl DAP at reflux condition in methanol,in place of the solid yellow ppt according to reaction scheme, I am getting viscous liquid every time... how to get the precipitate?

When using ethanol or methanol as solvents, I think it is normal to get viscous liquids instead of solids after removing the solvent in the rotavap. What I do is to disolve the liquid in a small amount of CH2Cl2 (the smallest you get anaything disolve). After that, you have to add a big amount of hexane or diethylether and you'll see a precipitate that you can either centrifugate or filtrate (in fact is a good idea to place the ch2cl2 solution into a centrifugation tube). Anyway, if you think ch2cl2 is bad for your compound, you can do the same using methanol instead of ch2cl2, however is harder to remove the exces of solvent.

I think you have to add a small amount of hexane to the viscous product and then cool the product
