How to get a good performanece working on UBRIS V1 Iris dataset ?

I work on the UBIRIS V1 database, which includes images of the iris of the human eye, and is based on Libor Masek's Matlab code. The results obtained show a low recognition rate and very high FAR, FRR and EER evaluation rates. Could you suggest a modification to the Libor Masek system that would improve the results?
