I am currently working on a project where we would like to flocculate anionic surfactants and fish residue from water. I have tried different combinations of flocculants, with different concentrations and different pH-levels - however, the solutions are getting white/transparent and not with a clear division between flocculants and the water.
Do you have any recommendations for flocculants/coagulants we can try for this project?

Adding cationic polyelectrolyte (Zetag-50) increased the removal of anionic surfactants. Complete surfactant removal was obtained when powdered activated carbon was added 5 minutes before the basic coagulant to the coagulation process.

To begin with, I would advise to coagulate your solutions with iron or aluminum sulfates. In addition, I suggest paying attention to froth flotation.
Among flocculants of natural origin, guar gum (non-ionic), chitosan in organic acid or modified tannin (both cationic) may be effective. Among synthetic flocculants, polyoxyethylene (nonionic), polyethyleneimine or modified polyacrylamide (both cationic) are promising.

The main difference among flocculants of the same class and / or the same brand is molecular weight.
When using a flocculant, it is important to know its working pH range, as well as to select the correct dose. Excessive amounts of flocculant have a stabilizing effect on colloidal particles.
Take about 1.5 L, add AlCl3 coagulant, agitate 100 rev/min., mix for for 20 minutes, stay for 1h, decant and filter , adjust pH:5.0, 6.0, 7.0, 8.0, 9.0 and 10 with NaOH/H2SO4 . To obtain better results Zetag-50 was added to sample about 0.1 mg/L. Almost 50% removal of AS occurs. To improve the coagulation process through dosing supporting agents CWZ-22 and CWZ-30 activated carbon adsorbents wood based were used to obtain 100% removal of AS.
