The professors from our university gave us the task to write a literature review on the subject "Extraction and analysis of mannitol in seaweed by HPLC". Despite the fact that we have a "protocol" which tells we are supposed use ethanol in order to extract it, but we have no access to any of the sources that were used in the making of that protocol. Could anyone possibly help me find the right article on mannitol extraction i could use (and of course mention) in my assignment?
I have spent 4 hours looking for various articles written by various scientists, however in none of them did anyone mention extraction with ethanol.

First you should know mannitol is known as cordycepic acid as well, in order to detect mannitol in your sample you need to have a standard to confirm that furthermore your HPLC condition ( Column type, mobile phase,... )

The solid-liquid extraction of mannitol from A. nodosum and L. digitata was investigated by varying both temperature (0, 25, 50°C) and HCl concentration (0, 50, 100 mM). One gram of algal meal was placed in a 50 mL polypropylene tube with 10 mL of extraction solution (0, 0.05 M, or 0.1 M HCl) and mixed at 250 rpm for 15 min at a 45° angle to ensure thorough mixing. The supernatant was collected by centrifugation (4700 rpm, 15 min, 4°C). This was repeated for a total of four extraction. Extraction solutions were stored at -40°C prior to analysis for mannitol, total phenolics, and protein.
