I would like to have an understanding on ways to estimate the cycle aging of Lithium-ion batteries. Could you provide some articles regarding this topic?
Moreover, I would like to know how is it possible to minimize the cycle aging, thus improving the battery life, by taking decisions on when to charge and how much to charge.

The time of charge does not influence the battery life. The most important factors during the charge that impact the cycle aging are the suggested limits of SOC, and the charge current.

Battery aging occurs due to charge/discharge cycles as the applied stressor.
Cycle aging of the battery has to be determined experimentally using accelerated life testing (ALT). Many reliability engineering textbooks discuss the ALT test.
Essentially, you need to develop the reliability demonstration test (RDT) plan to calculate the number of batteries to by cycle tested. To this end, you need to specify the ALT success criterion (e.g., no failures allowed during testing, one failure allowed, 2 failures allowed, etc) , the statistical confidence level (say 95%) and the target reliability of the battery.
The outcome of the ALT test is the mean time between failure (MTBF) of the battery measured in number of cycles.
