You need to try some cross pollination studies and bag some of the flowers. For a good method check "Techniques for Pollination Biologists" by Kearns and Inouye
I am interested in vanilla pollination. We try to cross pollinatated betweent Thai tradition cultivar and the commercial cutivar (V. planifolia). We got the pod , but a few seeds and less flavor after curing. Could you suggest me, How to improve the methodology? Thank you.
I think that your pollination method has no problem since you already got the pod and a few seeds. You cannot change the 'flavor' by improving your crossing methodology. You may need to make different crosses between your cultivar and other available cultivars, and evaluate the offspring of those different crosses to find out the best flavor.
But you can try to improve the crossing methodology to increase the successful rate of pollination of flowers.
For outcross plant species with self incompatibility, if you self-cross them (for example, try to develop an inbred line), they can become 'inbreeding depression'. And you will see some of their 'fitness' lost. We see this in carrot breeding.
