Dear Sir Check out Pennsylvania State University Dr. Jonathan Peter Lynch he is a wonderful root specialist. Look for an article on shovelnomics in which the details of root systems are holistically compared. I think his methodology is very conclusive. I would suggest during the whole root system analysis in single crops and in their mixtures to look at how the interactions compare. The ability of mycorrhizal fungi to interact with such approaches probably has not be investigated thoroughly and would have potential importance to these interactions. Good luck on your studies!

root studies are avoided usually for the difficulties in collecting data , and loosing the huge amounts of (rootlets) which are definitely the most important parts of the root . you have many choices in your study and I think that you will find hundreds of answers in an Israeli book with more than a thousand pages published in USA under the title of (( Roots the hidden part of the plant)) .I cant remember the authors right now and the exact name of the book , We are in holidays now so I need few days to check that in our colleges library .

I was a member of examining committee of a PhD dissertation that utilized the root architecture technique for screening wheat cultivars for drought tolerance .

The author was (Dr. Fathi Abdulkareem Omer) who worked in austria using (pouchus system) after (Christofer et al 2013) , he used it simply as in the attached photo.
