I'll be using a polymer material as an adsorbent for both nitrogen and phosphate from synthetic wastewater (SW), my question is how will I be able to determine how much nitrogen or phosphate is removed or retained in the SW?
Pls refer Standard Methods for the examination of Water and wastewater (APHA Manual) to examine protocol for estimation of nitrogen and phosphate. The protocol vary based upon the concentration of nitrogen/phosphate present.
Dear Jhon, Apart from reviewing the measurement techniques of Standard Methods for the examination of Water and wastewater (APHA Manual), it is also important that you define what type of nitrogen species you will provide to the synthetic wastewater and the pH of the process. In the case of ammonia nitrogen its equilibrium in the aqueous phase varies with the pH, which could affect the results of the adsorption process.
