To determine COD in saline waters, you can not use the usual method with the mixture Potassium Dichromate+ Sulphuric acid, because chlorides can be oxidised with it, resulting a heavy interference. You must applied the method with potassium permanganate. I advise you to consult a collection of methods for sea water as Methods of Seawater Analysis. Editor(s): Klaus Grasshoff, Klaus Kremling, Manfred Ehrhardt.
