i am working on abaqus program to model reinforced concrete beam strengthened by near surface mounted fiber , i need to know how define the epoxy accurately
To define epoxy adhesive in Abaqus use cohesive modelling technique for adhesive layer,use section as cohesive and assign element type as cohesive Coh3d8 .use cohesive interaction .
Its suitable to model the adhesive in a separate part and to Define cohesive elastic property and Traction-separation damage properties for this model. accordingly, the interactions should be defined correctly, mesh bias should be implemented in the vicinity of stress singularity zones of your model, and appropriate element type (Cohesive element) should be selected.
It depends whether you want to consider the adhesive or epoxy paste as a separate part or not. If its behavior matters or you are studying a special case such as degradation of stresses or fracture toughness in the adhesive layer, you have to model a separate segment. If the failure mode which was observed during the experimental investigation or real application scenario is only interfacial or no failure, you can just consider the interaction between the epoxy and the substrate as cohesive interaction with its corresponding parameters.
