I want to validate a scale containing 20 items. I expect to extract four factors. I perform commands in Mplus ( Mplus VERSION 8.4 DEMO) as in the following:
Title: EFA in Mplus;
Data: file is C19-OCDSS1.dat;
Variable: names are
Q1-Q20;
Usevariable are
Q1-Q20;
Analysis: EFA 1 4;
Is my definition of the command of "Variable" as "names are Q1-Q20" is correct? If this is true, why does it output the following message?
DEMO VERSION MAXIMUM EXCEEDED
Maximum number of dependent variables has been exceeded.
Number of dependent variables in the model: 20
Mplus VERSION 8.4 DEMO has the following limitations:
Maximum number of dependent variables: 6
Maximum number of independent variables: 2
Maximum number of between variables: 2
Maximum number of continuous latent variables in time series analysis: 2
It will depend on how you count variables ( eg. Are latent included in count?) try with five. I know this is difficult but world beating software is often only supported by purchasers, so Demo will be limited. This, cost, is a complex issue , software like spss is bought by institutions at quite an expense but is not always cutting edge. on the other side R is free but puts a heavy burden on users, and in my view is quite hard to diagnose when things go wrong which they do. When you purchase mplus you get specific help. I have no connection to mplus but I appreciate the constraints on keeping it going.
This is because you use a demo version of Mplus, not a lisenced version. The demo has the restriction given in the output. The full version has no restrictions
