The best advice is to be responsible for your own behavior. One day your words may come back to haunt you. If you are unable to come up with intelligent, non-combative responses, ignore the person. Do not argue with a fool! When you do, it becomes hard to tell who the fool is.

Rude behaviour occurs but rarely on RG. However, I have experienced it on Linkedlin and Entomo-L. Offensive behaviour may have two messages: the impolite guy tries to compensate his own frustration or he must be unsatisfied with his own performance or he qualify like that the given discussion environment.
I note that unfortunately, some RG threads contain too many common places or meaningless comments but this can authorise nobody for being vulgar
I would ignore people who behave rudely. There is not point answering to any of their comments, because this means going going downto their level of indecency.
I understand that may be politically correct to have communication channels on the media. Unfortunately, not much good for anything. No one can read massive comments, or remove the few interesting prospects.
Whenever I can I delete offensive or useless comments. However, this is called social media for a reason. It's like a cyber café, where everyone can express their opinions. As much as it costs us, those who act childish are actually showing their real selves and there's not much we can do about it. But, as in a café, we can either ignore those comments, delete them or simply remove the people from our connections. Answering them will only make you go down to his/her level, so nothing will be sorted and you are actually "playing" his/her game.
one way to deal with them is just to ignore them. When you respond, you will provoke them or you will satisfy their ego that they got your attention. If you don't response..eventually they cannot do anything more!
Don't feed the trolls!! Just ignore it. Churchill once described a fanatic as someone who won't change the subject and won't change his mind. You will run into fanatics on line and any attempt to respond will just draw more comments from them. Ignore them.
A conversation with a poorly educated person should strengthen our attitude of not being like her. The reaction to a poorly educated person should treat her with kindness. A poorly educated person knows not to be happy
I agree that the best thing that we can do is to ignore any rude or inappropriate comments made by people that has no idea of what we are discussing and use this behavior to deviate the discussion to irrelevant issues.
Ignoring such people is the best way to deal with them, and if they are too irritating just delete and block them, that is what I do when faced with such people.
