I'm preparing a review paper and confused about terms for reusing figure in other papers...
Can you please help me for 2 question..??
(1) As i know, the cost of reusing figure are different depending on the number of reused figures.
And, I want to reuse the whole Figure 1 in a paper.
But, the whole Figure 1 is divided into Figure 1(a), Figure 1(b) ~~~ Figure 1(f).
In this case, the number of reusing figure is 1 or 6 ??
(2) Can i add some simple text in the reused figure??
For example, I want to reuse a figure of carbon nanotube.
And, i'd like to insert a text for a length of carbon nanotube below the figure (not figure caption, just in figure)

Seung Gi Seo , In answer , (1a) Number of re-using figure will be counted as 6. Cost depends on the type of work, publisher and their coalaboration agreement (like STM). For STM, upto three figures from specific article are free, as far I know.
(1b) Yes, you can add the text that does not alter the figure meaning/concept. You still need to cite all of the figures.

You should obtain permission to re-use or adapt the figures from other sources. If the figure in the original source has multiple panels, permission granted for that figure should be valid for every panel in the figure. If you modify the figure for your article, you should mention in the figure caption 'adapted with permission from...'. Good luck!
