The bulk electrical conductivity (ECb) can be measured using a sensor similar to 5TE, and the ECb can be converted to pore water electrical conductivity (ECp) using Hilhorst et al. 2000.

σp=(εpσb)/(εb− εσb=0)

where σp is the pore water electrical conductivity (dS/m); εp is the real portion of the dielectric permittivity of the soil pore water (unitless); σb is the bulk electrical conductivity, (dS/m), measured directly by the 5TE; εb is the real portion of the dielectric permittivity of the bulk soil (unitless); εσb=0 is the real portion of the dielectric permittivity of the soil when bulk electrical conductivity is 0 (unitless).

However, when we use EM38 for ECb measurement, we cannot get the variable in the formula, so we cannot convert it. Is there any good method to convert the ECb measured by EM38 to ECp ?

Thanks for your reply.
