Some times at the exit of the extrusion machine, a plate of polymer (2mm in thickness ) will suffer reduction in its thickness. This situation rise to a weak mechanical resistant in this area. So I look for an optical idea to control this plate. with my Kind regards
Thickness measurements can be done using x-ray or ultrasound.You will easily find a supplier in your region. As the cooling behavior is different when the thickness suffers, you could also detect it using (active) thermography, see e.g. the work of Guenther Mayr.
If you want to measure it optically, you can use a optical triangulation system like shown in the pdf, It will be less difficult to measure the thickness of a flat plate.
