Depending on how the qds are (for example, if they are in suspension), you could use electron microscopy (HRSEM/HRTEM). If the qd are confined within a structure (for example, a microporous material such as a zeolite), XPS (depth profiling) could be used to identify how the carbon level increases as the sputtering of the sample progresses.
