I find it difficult to ask farmers to report on fertilizer and plant protection chemicals they use for their field (e.g rice). If I ask them to write down and come back after one month, I often get a blank note (so they never write). If I ask them to recall, they normally have difficulties to remember it. I can not visit them often to ask them. What is the good way to collect this data (note that they normally do not have smartphone with internet)?
To collect the farmers' data, at first, have to select some contact farmers or growers. If farmers are uneducated, while remaining them under sharp monitoring whole cropping seasons to collect data for any kinds of plant protection activities like an extension worker. On the other hand, if farmers are educated, while need to supply them a complete data collection sheet, where all plant protection activity’s description will be equipped distinctly. And few days interval has to monitor their activities for collecting whole seasonal crop data.

In such case, you should visit the local Agrovet (I mean local vendor for supplying pesticides/fertilizers). They may provide you the data on pesticide/fertilizers use. You can ask them at what rate farmers apply pesticides/fertilizers. You can ask for their sell records annually/monthly/seasonally. In most of the cases farmers apply fertilizers/pesticides at the rate/amount provided/recommended by local agrovets as they themselves may not know the application rate.
