Hi I am also making iron oxide nanoparticles capped with oleic acid by in situ co precipitation method, but when i add oleic acid during synthesis after the reactiom is completed a layer of oleic acid form on the surface which after sometime solidifies and it hinders the washing process. How can i avoid this? And do tell if i can use oleic acid after the synthesis of fe3o4 nanoparticles and add oleic acid to wet particles and sonicate/ stir it to coat oleic acid if yes them what should be the amplitude when using probe sonicator?
If you want oil-soluble magnetic nanoparticles, I recommend you to have a look to diol reducions assisted with oleic acid and oleylamine. In this case the synthesis is performed in organic non-polar medium and the resulting nanoparticles are separated by precipitation by adding a polar solvent.
