Hi all, I am working on polymer composites which surface was coated by polyester gel coats. My main concern is to change my surface properties hydrophobic to hydrophobic. is there any special process for this type of change or any coats are available for polymer composites.
You can use silanes with aliphatic or fluorinated hydrocarbon sub-
stituents to induce surface hydrophobicity. See eg

Silanes are effective for polar surfaces containg hydroxyl group or adsorbed water, in the case of less polar substrates titanates can be a solution.
You could grow carbon nanotubes or graphene on the polymeric substrate using Chemical Vapor Deposition technique.
You could also apply variety of hydrophobic coating using spin coating, spray coating, electrospraying etc

you could also do fluorinated single wall carbon nanotube above room temp.

At elevated temperature using nanofiller it is possible.
