In the perovskite cobaltites LaCoO3 , the Co3+ ions are octahedrally-coordinated  and possess 3 freedom dergees of spin states : law spin (LS, S = 0, with magnetic moment =0), high spin (HS, S = 2, with magnetic moment = 4mB), and intermediate spin (S = 1, IS, with magnetic moment = 2mB),

 In your case, you must be sure that 5 T is sufficent to saturate completely your sample (I'm not sure!!).

if the is the case, you can calculate your magnetic moment per Co3+ as follows :

                           M(emu/g) =  m(mB/Co3+)*NA* 10-20emu/Mole (1)

where m(mB/Co3+) =magnetic moment per Co3+ formuale (in Bohr magnetron)

NA: Avogadro's number =6.02 1023

Mole (LaCoO3 )= 245.83g

N.B : we get  1mB=10-20 emu

From (1) we deduce (here M(emu/g)=0.56 emu/g !!! :

m(mB/Co3+) =  =0.02286 mB/Co3+

I would not want to insist on my full right, but as far as I know, ferrites with perovskite structure belong to the class of weak ferromagnets in which the magnetic moment due to the small noncollinearity of 3d metal cation’s manetic moments, which in General are antiferromagnetically ordered (they are formed in four magnetic sublattices). La3+ hasn’t intrinsic magnetic moment. Therefore, the total magnetic moment of cobalt ions in this structure is much smaller than the magnetic moment of the Co3+ cation in the free state.

First as said above, in principle magnetization and magnetic moments concerns only with the Co ions.

The resulting saturation magnetization you measure is the "geometric" sum of the Co ions individual moments. By using neutron diffraction you can determine if the global magnetic arrangement is collinear or not (as probably in the present case). Using a reverse Mössbauer spectroscopy you can access to the individual hyperfine fields which are (more or less) proportional to the local atomic moments. Also NMR can bel helpful. Effectively these techniques are not so common ones... Otherwise, if you are expert as solid state chemist, you can try substitute Co sites by other one atoms (ex Mn to Fe, to Cu.. if effective), and by successive experimenrts, you try approximate the individual moments.

Now literature on this series of materials is broad enough allowing compare your own measurements to what has been reported in previous papers and thesis..

I share the opinion of Daniel, but I am afraid that the Mössbauer effect will be of little help, since in this case, the studied substance is not orthoferrite, but one is only the similar complex oxide, and the Co are not Mössbauer element. The Mössbauer effect can be used, introducing trial additives of Fe and examining the behavior of the Mössbauer spectrum parameters depending on the iron content.

In the reverse Mössbauer effect the source (gamma emitter) and the target (gamma absorber) are reversebly disposed. So the (your) sample containing Co must be activated in a nuclaer plant to get 57Co nucleus unstable but gamma emitter... So, I agree that this technique is only available in a very limited number of laboratories. .

Please read reports or books describing well the principle or REVERSE Mössbauer spectroscopy.

So back to your question, I am convinced that the most determining approach is neutron diffraction and determining the magnetic moment configuration.. But neutron diffraction is commonly available too.

Also try to combine algebraically the theoretical values of Co ions moments (depending on the local coordination) as explained above by M. El Hafidi.. Often this is effective if parallel to approach the magnetic saturation you don't modify parallel the starting magnetc configuration (spin flop).

I want to know the theoretical magnetic moment value of LaCoO3 and compare the same with the experimental value. In our case, how i will be sure that which spin state is present in our case and with what percentage. Also what if the charge states are different viz Co2+, Co4+ and if we replace Co ions by Mn ions then also how the magnetic moment will change for these different charge states.

I am only having M-H and M-T data, no extra measurements i have done.

RMS and Neutron Diffraction could give sufficient information about the crystalline and magnetic structure of the samples. However, because of the low availability of the mentioned methods and even (as it can be seen from Kumar's comment) the lack of the ability to use NMR, it will not be possible to obtain more or less exact solution of the problem. I think that from the available experimental data it is possible only to try finding several solutions, based on various models of the system: the set of charge states of ions and the possible magnetic configurations.
