Hi,

Suppose we have a k-space Hamiltonian of a 3D TI (like the one in Zhang et al., nphys 5 438(2009)). If we want to calculate the surface states in one of the surface of a cubic, say the z=0 plane. It is suggested that we can replace kz in the Hamiltonian by the derivative with respect to z, \partial_z and calculate the wave function in (kx,ky,z) space. I try to find some references for this kind of calculations but cannot find any so far. Could you help me with it? Thanks.
