I'm simulating an internal flow of water to cool a hot rod. It's a transient simulation problem. I'm curious to find out the heat transfer coefficient from the simulation? Are any methods or producers available to calculate the heat transfer coefficient values? What is the difference between the wall heat transfer coefficient and the surface heat transfer coefficient?
You can calculate h from:
Qdot = h A (Ts - Tf).
FLUENT can calculate Qdot, you know te surface area and the temperatures.
This can be calculated at every time step then you can take the average over certain amount of time.
I think that best way to calculate the heat transfer coefficient is by divided the heat flux on difference between wall temperature and mean temperature between the inlet and outlet.
Otherwise you can use the equation bellow:
h=[(m Cp (Tout-Tin )]/[A (Tw-Tm )]
Tm=(T_out+T_in )/2
