The TBA water mixture at 100 C is being added to a 200 L container (which is going to be filled up to 82% of its volume) open to atmosphere. How to calculate mass of TBA evaporated and what information will I need to do so?
With composition and operative conditions (T, P, Flow) you may use in Hysys a separator, remember that the boiling temperature of this alcohol is about 82-83 Celsius.
A good starting point would be to look at some experimental data on the vapor liquid equilibrium of water and t-butanol. This tells you the composition of the vapor, for each kilogram of evaporated material. There are also software programs that can do this, like Josue Roque already indicated.
The evaporation rate of the mixture depends mostly on the environmental conditions (temperature, geometry of the container, wind speed). There are some empirical correlations available for pool evaporation of liquids that you could use.
I think that the initial temperature is not so important for the problem, because the contents of the vessel will cool down quite quickly to ambient temperature without additional heating.
