I have prepared CNT-epoxy nanocomposites with dimensions: width= 20mm, thickness= 4mm and length= 40 mm. During experiments, the distance between two supporting pins is 7 mm on each side.
I suggest you to read the ASTM standards or EU standards such as EN843-2. Furthermore you need to accurately measure the deflection and strains of your sample. The displacements given/output by the testing equipment are not exactly the same as ones the sample experiences. Especially for your material there will be significant deviations. In the standards you will find all the details.
you need use a tensile test (ASTM standard test ) to derive elastic modulus of a sample. but using below formula, it is applicable to derive elastic modulus from flexural test.
flexural stiffness= (elastic modulus*I)/L
L= length of sample
I= 1/12 (b*h^3)
b= width of sample
h= thickness of sample
this method is not standard, as mentioned it is better to use standard tensile test.
