Please help me how to calculate CEC of biochar after using Ion chromatography analysis.
CEC is measured by saturating 1.0 g (sieved 2mm) of the biochar with 50 mL of 1 N ammonium acetate (CH3COONH4) at pH 7 and placing the mixture on a shaker table overnight. The shaking ensures sufficient wetting of the biochar surfaces. After shaking, the initial 50 mL of 1 N ammonium acetate is extracted by vacuum with an automatic extractor and then a second addition of 40 mL ammonium acetate is added to extract. The samples were then washed with ethanol three times with a total volume of 60 mL to remove the ammonium acetate remaining after filtering and then received 50 mL of 2 N KCl to replace the NH4CH3COO. This initial 50mL addition of 2 N KCl is allowed to stand for 16 h to ensure adequate time for replacement of the absorbed NH4+ cations. The initial 50 mL was extracted and then immediately followed by a second addition of 40 mL of 2 N KCl and subsequent extraction. The extracted NH4+ was quantified using a Ion chromatography analyzer.

Calculate the molarity of the ammonium ion in the KCl extract, multiply by the volume in L to give the total number of millimoles, then multiply by 1000 to calculate millimol/kg of soil
calculate millimols of NH4 depending on its molarity ,then multipply by 1000 to obtain mmol/kg soil ,but the the international unit is centimole charge/kg soil (cmolc/kg soil, then the divide millimoles on 10 to obtain cmolec /kg soil
while cmole charge /kg soil =meq /100 g soil.
