I am working in LS DYNA. However, my question is general for any FEM based software user. I have two cuboidal parts (one small cube over a larger cube). I wish to apply symmetry boundary conditions at upper face of the bigger cube i.e. the one below the smaller cube. However, the smaller cube should not experience BC. Any help is highly appreciated.

Whether your question is not quiet clear; If you're going to model these 2 cubes, why you need to set symmetry boundary conditions for the bottom cube?. it is better to use surface interaction module and global boundary conditions.

The above mentioned assembly is quite simple to my actual one. I just keen to know, whether a symmetrical BC can be applied to a part without making any change to the other parts in the whole assembly?

For the boundary conditions, any part of your assembly can be applied but if there are other parts with the same instance. Probably, you should use interaction module or set a constraint as an embedded region.
