I want to use asymmetric Gaussian filter to smooth an image, because I don't want the equal smoothness in vertical and horizontal (with different size of standard deviation, σ). This means that I want a different σ for the vertical and horizontal, let's say σ_v = 0.001 and σ_h = 0.2.
For a "fixed" Gaussian filter I can do:

thank you for the reply. By rescaling I assume you mean to resample or aggregate the raster to a coarser resolution and then smooth the aggregated raster and finally disaggregate the smoothed object back to it's original resolution. But the smoothing (which is what I am after) will still be a Gaussian with the same type of bluriness in both axes. So how does your suggestion helps me to apply a different σ in the vertical and horizontal?
