Oleic acid is used as a capping agent to control growth and agglomeration of nanoparticles ( cerium oxide nanoparticles). I used different organic solvents( ethanol, DMF, Heptane, Hexane, acetone etc) but FTIR is still showing carbon in it. Please help me in solving this problem. I want to completely removes Oleic acid molecules.
If I have well understood, you have "capped" your NPs with the oleic acid. If so, you can not remove it by just centrifugating your dispersion. I guess you may have formed a strong shell around your NPs and you colud try removing it by an intense heating in furnca (in air for example) to promote carbonization of the shell through elimination of volatile fractions... similar to TGA. I do not know how setting the process parameters in your specific case, but I suppose that there could be enaugh literature about. By the way, the Thermal process colud also affect the chemical structure of the original NPs, depending on max temperature/time. I think you might deepen this option
You may want to consider the following particularly suitable solvents for oleic acid; or solvent mixtures based on them: carbon disulfide, chloroform (or trichloromethane), diethyl ether, furfural, isopropyl alcohol, octadecene, tetrahydrofuran (THF).
Methanol is considered as one of the best solvents to remove the oleic acid from the surface. You please try multiple washing of nanoparticles using methanol. And hopefully you will be obtaining oleic acid removed nanoparticles (Not completely).. If yo u want to remove the oleic acid completely from the surface, pyridine can be considered.. Ie., you take your powdered nanoparticles (coated with Oleic acid) and reflux with pyridine at 80-100oC for a night. You will probably end up with oleic acid removed NPs....

Dear Sapna, Unfortunately you can't get the significant removal unless you sacrifice the physicochemical properties of nanoparticles. I have tried different methods but all failed. I then ended up with surfactant-free methods of fabrication. Send me message should you any further question.
