They are analysed difference metal (Hg, Cd, Pb etc)...normally direct Hg analyser can use for solid samples, but AAS, AES, ICPOES/MS need to aspirate liquid samples, so need to digestion to convert the solid sample to liquid sample (extract the metals from solid to liquid phase)
