Push-Pull strategy is a novel tool in the management of stemborer pests in maize. The technology also has other benefits. However, the tool has never been widely adopted by smallholder farmers who are the majority of maize producers in SSA. Based on personal experience, the use of desmodium is the main challenge- the crop is expensive, difficult, and takes a longer period to establish.

Push and pull strategy is also used for managing Fall army worm in maize crop. We are using Desmodium, Tephrosia, fenugreek, mint, coriander and marigold as deterrent crop whereas border row of hybrid Napier or Brachiaria species be planted for pulling Fall army worm.
