The question comes from the following observation :

Many people I know, mainly phd students are studying heavy bosons (W',Z'), SUSY, Technicolor..

As it always happens when one challenges the unknown, what you search might exist or it might not.

Should one invest their time and intellect searching for something that might after all be a failure? Take for example the many searches for SUSY starting from the SppS collider 30 years ago and going on up till now at LHC. So far they have proven to be fruitless.

My view is that we should focus on things that we have an experimental clue OR very strong theoretical motivation that exist .
