Currently I am working on a summer project for weight reduction of an component using LS-OPT tool.i need to understand the basic step by step process,how it creates response surface?on what basis? how it works on background?how to find out metamodel is accurate?pls help me out, thank you
What type of response surface are you designing?
If you are using a Central Composite Design or Box Behnken Design, these are "canned" designs that premade. If you are talking about an optimal response surface, these designs seeks to minimize or maximize some function of a matrix. These designs are created using a series of randomly generated matrices and then the software calculates the function. These designs are custom made. Sometimes, multiple matrices have the same minimal/maximal value of this function. So, it is possible to get several different "optimal" designs.

Talking about how any particular software creates a D-optimal design is difficult. The main reason is that your software will use a randomly generated design matrix and make changes to it. My software will run 10,000 matrices based upon an original matrix and tries to maximize the determinate of the information matrix.
