@ Arvind, nickel has been demonstrated to influence microbial growth, metabolism, community structure and diversity in methanogenic environments (Cai, Qiu & Chen, 2004; Paulo et al., 2017). Ni has ability to withstand high heat and minimizes the corrosion.
Ni has ability to withstand high heat in favorable atmosphere for methane bacteria. Methanogens are key organisms in the degradation of complex organic matter under anaerobic conditions and high microbial activity, specifically of those methanogens using H2, is critical for the process. The level of H2 is critical for various metabolic pathways, such as the conversion of organic acids, which is thermodynamically unfavorable under high H2 pressures. The standard Gibbs free energy, ∆G0′, of ethanol, propionic acid, butyric acid, and valeric acid (other than lactic acid) is positive, and the reaction will not proceed spontaneously under standard conditions.
