This questions comes against the backdrop that many external examiners mark and return thesis within a week with indepth analysis and critcism of the thesis whereas other will keep it for five month and return it with very minor corrections.
Hence, it is important to standandised the external moderation, but then what duration of time should be allocated for such marking and should external examiners recieve any payment for this service?
I believe that 2 months is sufficient for an in depth analysis of a thesis
My opinion on this is that eternal examiners should not be paid. Because it tend to compromise quality. However the lack of motivation on the other hand might have an effect on the return rate. With so many weak supervisors, professors and scholars in our time, motivation is critical. I feel thst the length should be a contractual agreement between the supervisor, the University and the eternal examiner.
