First of all, lithium salts as lithium admixtures, such as lithium nitrate, carbonate, hydroxide, or hydroxide monohydrates, only apply to mitigate the ASR for a limited range of aggregates. The typical range of Lithium Nitrate application is 4 to 5 litre per m3 of concrete. The substitution of cement with low calcium fly ash (class f) in the range of (25 to 35%) in combination (or as an alternative) with 40% to 50% slag are considered better solutions for the mitigation of ASR.
Reactivity of concrete aggregates is also an important factor. The Australian Standards AS 1141.60.1 accelerated mortar bar test (AMBT) and AS 1141.60.2 concrete prism test (CPT) classify aggregates to non-reactive, slowly reactive and highly reactive.
