I am interested to know roughly how much crop residue input is needed to maintain soil organic matter in a tillage-intensive system.  Previous studies listed below have indicated that approximately 5Mg/ha/year is needed.  I appreciate any input and specific citations on this issue.  I understand this may depend on many factors (climate, soil type, crop management, etc.).
