I am curious about the permissible boundaries and considerations when it comes to incorporating AI into academic projects. Your insights and experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
In my opinion it really doesn't matter if the student used AI for the dissertation. Punishing AI writing is meaningless since the future of human collaboration with AI is arriving.
Instead, the traditional methods of education and evaluation, should evolve with time. For example, certain skills like spelling and grammar are not significant anymore, as these can now be handled by AI. This indicates a need to shift the emphasis towards the higher-order cognitive abilities that AI is yet to replicate effectively: critical thinking, creativity, reasoning, communication, and more. For instance, instead of a written thesis assessment, maybe the assessment should become a development/research vlog or in-person demonstration, articulating their thought processes, demonstrating their collaborative skills with other people and AI and showcasing their ability to leverage AI in problem-solving.
