Engaged teachers prioritize delivering quality education, seek out new ideas and best teaching practices, frequently monitor student progress and provide feedback, and modify their instruction to meet the needs of their students.
In this research, a multidimensional conceptualization of student engagement was considered, which refers to engagement as consisting of three major components – behavioral, cognitive, and emotional.
Engaged learners have a genuine interest, attention to, and interaction in the learning process. Learner engagement has three facets: Cognitive - Effort and strategy. From a simple willingness to learn, to going above and beyond expectations to accomplish learning outcomes. .
“Professional development is defined as activities that develop an individual's skills, knowledge, expertise and other characteristics as a teacher.” ... In this last case, development can be provided through coaching/mentoring, collaborative planning and teaching, and the sharing of good practices.
The primary role of a teacher is to deliver classroom instruction that helps students learn. ... In addition to ensuring that students experience academic success, teachers must also function as surrogate parents, mentors and counselors, and even almost-politicians. There is almost no limit to the roles a teacher may play.
Three levels of student engagement are identified below – passive, mixed, and highly engaged. At the lowest level, students are primarily not engaged in the learning process. Classrooms are almost exclusively teacher-centered. Students are usually passive or compliant.

Great subject !!! I am working on the engagement of teachers (grades 5 and 6) towards science teaching, by studying their relation to science knowledge compared to their attitude toward science teaching.
I will hold my defense thesis this spring... but it will be in french !
