Hello everyone. I am planning to start applying for postdoctoral fellowships in Canada, the UK, and Australia later this year, likely in late autumn when most application cycles begin. I am trying to understand how many publications are typically considered competitive for a postdoc in history in these countries.
I have been told that I already have more than enough. Some of my papers are published, others have been accepted, and a few are in the final stages of revise-and-resubmit and will likely be accepted by the time I start applying. I have also been working on a monograph. Two university presses gave positive feedback on my expression of interest, and I plan to submit a full proposal by September. Hopefully, it will be under review when I begin applying.
Despite this, I still feel uncertain. I see people with twelve, fourteen, or even fifteen papers, with published monographs, and sometimes multiple books by the age of twenty-eight. I am already twenty-six, and I find it difficult not to compare myself to others.
I would be very grateful for any honest insight or advice on what is considered a strong publication record for postdoctoral applicants in history. Thank you.
