Posters are the predominant form of presenting at conferences. They can range from just a few at small meetings, to thousands at larger events. We can work out how many of these you could effectively read by way of reading rates, but what happens to the stuff you don't have time for?

There were about 10 posters. I believe the stuff I don't have time for I forget about. I think from now on I'll make an effort to ask the presenters if I can have a copy and download them to my flash drive and review later on.

So nice question, I just like to say that number of conference posters are depends on many factors, like:
1- Total financial support including in which country the conference will hold.
2- Many conferences are hold locally so no many posters needed, but when the conference is international, it demand too many posters.
I attended conference in one of the Arabic countries in 2010, there were thousands of posters even at the airport, streets, universities, employing hotels, furthermore TV and other media.

So once the abstracts are all in, the committee basically 'shortlists' them & awards prizes? Do they have set criteria, judging rubrics etc.?
