It takes some hours, not days....I run it from virtual machine (xp 4 Gb ram)

I forgot to share one thing, with Tutorial data, the CA-MARKOV runs and complete the process in 24-30 minutes, with my data, the process stops or terminates halfway.

May be i should attach the file with error messages i have encountered this week for your consideration.  

How big are your map datasets? (Mb or Gb?)

The whole folder with datasets(Landuses 2000,2006,2013 and suitability maps) has 70.8MB(when compressed-RAR). 

Well, it's a normal dimension of dataset...I don't know what does it process...it takes too many time...

Thank you for your advice on XP,  i tried it and completed the process well, but i tried first to subset a section of my catchment(Took one river catchment only),when i tried the CA-Markov for whole catchment about 20,000km2 it did not work, it stops at  Pass 8 of 483 (Mola). May i send the zipped files to you if you dont mind, and look at  them, try to run the module, i hope after this you can advice me better. Thanks

I have same problem as Mr. Canute. I have run CA-Markov for my study area after 3 days, it is working on Mola (pass 19 of 208). I think it is because of my study area (80 sq.km with 1x1 m pixel size, so about 80,000,000 pixels). Am I right ? Do You have any idea?  Tnx.

Probably you are the same Canute 's problem. Too many pixels, too many operations...

Saleh, pay attention to Francesco's advice. Try a course cell resolution to reduce images Memory(MB/KB/GBs) by reformatting your data by CONTRACT module in IDRISI up to a level that works for you. try may be 15mx15m, 30mx30m,60mx60m(IDRISI Tutorial uses 60x60m).

Actually this map is produced by CA-Markov module to predict the future land use map of an study area. Input land use maps were 2004 and 2008 with 9 land use types. 3 of them (housing, commercial and industrial) were with 10 class of probability of growth (created using Weight of evidence method) with class 1 least probability and class 10 highest probability of growth. And other 6 classes just extracted form land use map of 2008 ( as there were). So Markov chain transitional area matrix, basis land use map (land use map of 2008) and raster group file of 9 classes (as explained) were other input files, and asked to project for next 4 years (2012).

I have same problem as Mr. Canute. I have run CA-Markov for my study area i.e. 196341.23 sq.km with 30*30 m. First 5 passes run in 10 min and now stuck at 6/252 pass. I have given 2005 and 2010 with 7 LULC classes as input and want to predict for 2017. Can any one help me why is it and how I can resolve it

Lower the resolution of the input images. I realized that 30*30 resolution generates lots of files while processing that makes your PC temporary memory to burst. The wise and tricky idea try 60*60m 120*120m or 90*90m. If you get further problem please feel free to ask. Lets know about what happened on your side after changing the pixel resulutions

if we change the resolution will it not effect our final output which we indeed need in same resolution i.e. in 30 m

If yo have a supercomputer you could keep the 30m resolution but with the ordinary PCs and you have a very large area to model, i have some experience that CA-Markov process never get through.It ends premature. When you increase the cell resolution you are actually merging the neighbor cells 3x3, 7X7 etc. So, please make cost benefit analysis of the best approach to use.

I had the same problem.

1. If the process got stuck at a particular pass, that is because of the less storage space in your workspace directory. Keep a minimum of 25 to 50 GB of empty space in the directory.

2. If the processing is very slow, this may be due to your system configuration

or otherwise, because of your study area size and pixel quality.
