You decide what you consider short, medium or long-term recordings in rodents. I have recorded life spans in strains of mice, the aggressive females lived 1080 days as opposed to non-aggressive males which lived about 500 days. This is surely a longitudinal study.
Then I have recorded different types of emotional behaviors for 2 min in the open field, certainly short-term recordings.
