There are scientific specialties that require experiments that may take a long time. There are scientific and humanitarian specialties depends on the type of subject. The financial budget for research and the availability of resources and the skill of the researcher and supervisor, these specialists should not exceed one year for the doctor and 9 months for the master.
For example introduction part shouldn't more than 10% of the entire write-up, why the Literature review shouldn't be about 40%. The other part of the thesis which are methodology, results and conclusion can be any length depend on area of your study. That is my view because it varies based on school and field.

I believe that in terms of duration, it can be up to 2 years but not below than that to investigate the research topic sufficiently and efficiently. If you ask about the number of pages, it depends on the field of study. It may go up to 200 pages in human and socail studies and can be less than that in the field of applied sciences.
However, some universities do make minimum numbers of pages and also references as pre-requisite for final submission with regard to PhD Theses and MA Dissertations.
I finished my study. Now in process of writing. Hence, need to know if there is a words limit or pages limit. Any international standard recommendation????
Different countries / universities have different schemes of thesis of PhD. However, in my opinion, thesis should follow a FISH body structure. I cant draw here, but the front of fish (10-15%) should have introduction/ aim and objectives. To the point literature review is one of the most important part of your thesis. How well you explain linked/answers of your result and discussion section's arguments in the literature section (20-30%). Methodology and experimental set-up normally don't require much space and this section is very straight-forward upto max. 10 pages. Then, it comes to result and discussion section, which is the main part of your research work. It should be at-least 30-40% (again it depends, how many results you have and it this % varies according to the type of your research. Conclusion and future recommendations is normally 2-3 pages. Then references and any additional notes etc.
P.S: Again, the structure and length of your PhD thesis is very much dependent on the requirement of your university and your supervisor.
I think that thesis should be similar, let say.. as a reasonable length of the book. We should remember about our readers, think if this is easy to read and presents enough data think of way how you would like to present your research story as well as all graphs, figures etc. The pages numbers which I'm thinking of is between 160-230, but is it important that each thesis met the requirements of University which the PhD / research is conducted on.
With Regards per my submission the length of the thesis barely matters. The value of your thesis depends upon the quality contents and novelty of your contributing chapters. In general 125 to 200 page thesis is enough for Ph. D including at least seven chapters.
