It is little surprising that silver nanoparticles can be assembled into the shape of a leaf shape. However, I could not explain the mechanism of this phenomenon. If you have any article on this subject, I will be happy to read it.
It seems very nice. I think that it should be dendritic. Dendritic crystals can form from growth instabilities that occur when the growth rate is limited by the rate of diffusion of solute atoms to the interface. In this case, there must be a concentration gradient from the supersaturated value in the solution to the concentration in equilibrium with the crystal at the surface. Any protuberance that develops is accompanied by a steeper concentration gradients at its tip. This increases the diffusion rate to the tip. In opposition to this is the action of the surface tension tending to flatten the protuberance and setting up a flux of solute atoms from the protuberance out to the sides. However, overall, the protuberance becomes amplified. This process occurs again and again until a dendrite is produced.
You may like to check my article on 'A new stoichiometry of cuprate nanowires' and see if you could get some tips into what is happening. I think that template or surface upon which nucleation took place might have played a significant role in your observation. Joshua.
Thanks you for your valuable comments. Dear Dr. Li, i think it makes sense with your comments and I agree with your description. Dear Konne and Mohammad, can you kindly send me the manuscript. I do not have access to ACS. I will be happy to go through the related article.
Hello Prof. Guoran Li, Can you send me your details affiliation. I want to keep your name in acknowledgement. Can you send me your email so that I can communicate with you.
Sorry for the delayed reply. I didn't check my Researchgate in the past two weeks.
Thanks for your kind suggestion that you will keep my name in Acknowledgement. But I don't think it is necessary. I just enjoy discussing some interesting issues with researchers from different fields. If my comments are helpful for you, I will be very glad.
