This paper is also about the impact of feedback on performance. But does effort/Submission specify the "work performance" or is it described by the achieved score? (see Table 2 or page 10)
Article Feedback and Incentives : Experimental Evidence
"In the tournament payment scheme a subject’s earnings depend on the relative performance. The subject with the highest score receives a fixed winner’s prize of €17 and the other subject receives €0." --> page 9.
And this:
"In the No Feedback condition a subject never observes the other subject’s
performance. In the Discrete Feedback condition each subject is informed about the other subject’s score halfway during the production period, that is when 10 minutes have elapsed; after that no further information is released before the end of the game. In the Continuous Feedback condition each subject can at any time observe the other subject’s score on the screen." --> also page 9. But this solves not yet your initial question.
The answer can be found here: "The difference in the average number of submissions (i.e., the level of effort)" --> page 17.
Actually the results for each hypothesis are quite accurate about what exactly was used for analysis. Hope this helps.
Interesante tu pregunta.
