I was previously using Mendeley and recently I have came across Endnote. therefore I am a little bit confused about which one to use for long term usage? Because now I am engaged in multiple subjects and have generated number of libraries and want to keep it same in both.
Hi Carlos, Yes I probably agree. The world is a less than perfect place. Maybe we need to un-pick this a bit though.
* RG and Academia.edu are basically discussion / open access / academic or research profile tools. That's what they do best.
* Mendeley and Endnote are reference management software. Reference management is what they do best. You can share data between them using RIS files, which works well.
My advice to researchers is look at what you want to do and then choose a tool that can do that best for you. Personally, I would only use one reference management software, learn to use it really well and move on. I am not saying that these are "good" publications, but they summarise my thoughts on the matter :->

With colleagues I have spoken to are very satisfied with Medeley, but Endnote still are more compatible with Web universities systems they work with daily.
I never work with medeley but I use endnote and I am very much satisfy with the endnote. New functions added in endnote 7 are tremendous and even you can manage references in power point and excel too.
Try both and you can have batter idea.
Have a good reference management.
My own advise would be: try to diversify as much as possible your resources, just in case. Hence do some bets on Menedely (I use, myself) as well as on Endnote. I agree with Federico on his comment about Endnote. Moreover, if you try to broaden up your horizon go to Academia.edu as well.
Science and research are to come extent about using as many resources as possible whilst focusing on your topic of research. Therefore...

Hi Tejas, Mendeley, is a free to use reference management software that has a desktop version you can download onto your laptop and a web interface to allow you to publish bibliographies online and share and discuss with colleagues around the world.
Mendeley was until recently a stand alone company but is now part of Reed Elsevier. There was a lot of discussion about the ethics of this take over at the time, bottom line is the financial support of Reed Elsevier makes Menedely a long term player in the reference software game!
The advantages of Mendeley, among other things, are: 1) Basic version is free, 2) it's good, I use it myself and I can say that it meets all the requirements of reference management software, 3) it has a really good and reliable web interface, which allows you to sync your work across a number of different computers and share with colleagues.
EndNote is well spec'd and popular in universities. You have to pay for it though. Both will fill your needs. The criticism of EndNote that I would make is that it is "overspec'd" for most users. They do market a lot of versions. In other words there is a new version almost every year. Some users find that hard to cope with. I used to use versions 8, 9, X, X1 and X2. I have lost touch now but it's website says its now in version 17? (X7).
I have to declare an interest as a Mendeley advisior, a kind of advanced user.
Allow me a wishful thought: It would be desirable a dialogue, interplay or inner link among Mendeley, Endnote, RG, Academia…
The research networks would greatly benefit.
I know, though, that for the time being this is not possible, hélas!
